Remote sensing is necessary for the metaverse to take effect. Its needed for realistic visuals and life like reactions in order to mimic the real world and create a high-fidelity experience that entices users to interact with the environment. In order for this to become a reality remote sensing and ai will be needed to ensure a smooth flow of data to mirror real world environment.
Further to this, labels have been given to Digital Twins to explain their level of data immersion.
Digital Model – A digital model has a manual flow of data, meaning it has to be updated. Real-time data flow does not exist and therefore might not be a true reflection of a machines state.
Digital Shadow – A digital shadow is one way of flowing data usually from the machine to the digital object. As changes are made in the digital object, these do not get relayed back to the physical object until manually parsed.
Digital Twin – A digital twin is a flow of real time data between the digital and physical objects. As one is updated in either world the twin also adopts to the new state creating an exact replica.
Sensor technology is advancing and manufacturing plants that intend to operate using digital twins will need to adjust their systems to be able to process the data through remote sensors. This will require that latency issues around connectivity will need to be enabled and typically manufacturing plants hardwire machines through ethernet cables. This approach will require manufacturing plants to have high speed internet connections that operate on a wireless system.
